Once authorized, they can securely access your tax information, speak directly with the CRA for you, and take care of important tasks like filing returns or answering CRA requests.

The CRA recently changed the authorizaiton process.  Tax preparers can no longer apply for the authorization through their tax software.

  • Choose never to expire.
  • Choose level 2 authorization.

The slower way

  1. The tax preparer prepares and submits a request to get authorized on the CRA portal.
  2. The tax preparer prepares the authorization one page document, showing your name, SIN and phone number and my name, CRA authorized. representative ID and phone number.
  3. You sign the authorization letter, and the tax preparer submits it online on the CRA portal.
  4. You log in to your MyAccount or MyBusiness account with the CRA and approve the authorization request.
